Incorporating the exploration of diverse topics including religion versus cultural beliefs, forced marriages v arranged marriages as well as so called “HONOR” v Honor-based-violence as part of domestic abuse.

So lovely to meet with @miltonkeyneschristiancentre yesterday 💚
Huge thank you to them for supporting 47 of our families over the last year with life saving funds. The money has been spent on things like emergency food, hotels and taxis to our refuge to escape #domesticabuse as well as supermarket vouchers for an additional 40 families.
We can’t thank you enough 😊
If your group, charity or company would like to set up a fund to support families who are suffering from domestic abuse contact ➡️[email protected]

Have you thought about fundraising for MK Act?

Where will the money go? To supporting individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse. Our Last Resort Fund provides what someone needs when they reach out to us, that could be food, a new sim card, toiletries, a taxi to escape abuse and more.

How can you support us?

🟢Set up a fundraiser on Local Giving to support our Last Resort Fund.

🟢Could you donate % of sales of a particular product?

🟢How about an afternoon tea or bake sale?

🟢Take part in arranged run or hike, or organise one.

🟢Host a quiz, bingo or networking event.

🟢Could you let your fitness class or event delegates know that your event is supporting MK Act and ask for donations on booking or on the day?

🟢Raise awareness of services available in Milton Keynes by displaying posters or sharing our social media posts.

1 in 5 residents in Milton Keynes reported experiencing domestic abuse (Safer MK Survey 2019) while nationally it is estimated that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. You can help.

Posted @withregram • @womens_aid In England and Wales, around 60% of child arrangement cases involve domestic abuse. However, many judges fail to recognise it and label it as `parental conflict`. Women who fear for their children`s safety are often dismissed as troublemakers or manipulative when they try to protect them from abusers who can harm or even kill their children during contact visits. Read about Claire Throssell`s Case (link in bio) 🔗

Every day, family court orders are putting women and children at risk by forcing them into contact with dangerous abusers, sometimes making the court experience as traumatic as the abuse itself.

That`s why Melanie Brown MBE is urging the Judicial College to implement compulsory ongoing training in collaboration with experts like Women`s Aid.
Join Melanie by signing our petition because children`s safety must always come first. Find the link in our bio . ➡️

This is Daniel from @Passion_4_hairltd who very kindly gifted some brilliant self care items to residents at the MK Act refuge.

Daniel and his team have provided brand new hair care items, including hair dryers, brushes, straighteners and more to women at the refuge. Items like this allow people to feel like themselves again, building up their confidence and making time for themselves during such a challenging period of their lives.

We are very grateful for your thoughtful gift and for giving people back items they have likely left behind when fleeing domestic abuse.

We know these gifts will put smiles on faces. Thank you.

People often ask; "Why don`t they just leave?" But instead of blaming survivors, we should focus on supporting them to make leaving possible.

Understanding the many obstacles people face when trying to leave an abusive relationship—like psychological, emotional, financial, or physical threats—helps us empower them to know they have options and to make decisions.

Fear for their safety plays a huge role in why people don`t leave an abusive relationship, as abuse or violence can escalate after separation.

In 2018, 41% of women killed by a male partner or former partner in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland had either separated or tried to. Many were killed shortly after leaving (Femicide Census, 2020).
