Press Release – Isabel Binns Wins Award

MK Act, the Domestic Abuse Services for Milton Keynes, are proud to announce that Isabel Binns, Refuge Co-ordinator, has won the category of Community Impact Professional at the Milton Keynes Women’s Leaders Awards at the Hilton Hotel Gala evening Awards ceremony.

The judges said “Isabel demonstrated modest yet inspirational leadership showing that through her team she is delivering real effect in the Milton Keynes community.  She has had to accept severe challenges and to innovate and overcome these issues to deliver a continuity of service to people and families at a time of greater need.”

Also a  finalist nominated for the  Awards  was Andrea Vincent Chair of the Trustees, for the Community Impact Volunteer category.

Mk Act (previously Milton Keynes Womens Aid) was founded in 1975.  Andrea and Isabel have both been involved with the organisation for over 20 years, helping it grow and evolve into the lead agency for Domestic Abuse Services within Milton Keynes and recognised within the sector as an exemplary service.

MK Act supports over 800 victims of Domestic Abuse each year. The lifesaving service comprises of a Crisis Intervention service offering advice, risk management and safety planning for clients in addition to  advice for other agencies, a refuge offering safe accommodation for 28 women and their children, an outreach and resettlement service assisting those in the community,  Fresh Start – a specialist perpetrator programme for perpetrators wishing to change their abusive behaviour, and a programmes and training project  offering Domestic Abuse awareness course for victims and training for professionals.

Andrea and Isabel were delighted to be nominated for the awards and represent Mk Act. Isabel said “I was thrilled to be nominated and receive the award. It is a privilege to be involved with Mk ACT and to see the success of the many clients that we support who go on to live lives free from abuse.”

I am so proud of Isabel and Andrea and to be working alongside a team that are so passionate in helping families move on from fear and abuse.”
